Land Rover teases Evoque with full-size sculptures

Scale wire forms suggest there won’t be a radical reinvention

Ahead of a full launch later this month, Land Rover has begun teasing the brand-new Evoque in the form of full-size wire structures dotted around London in the U.K.

The sculptures, created in-house by Jaguar Land Rover’s design team, mimic the basic outline of the second-generation Evoque, and show that characteristic traits of the model, such as the coupe-esque sloping roofline, will carry over into the second gen.

Though the British marque suggests the new model will set “new standards of design, capability and sustainability,” the 1:1-scale structures show Land Rover has not gone overly radical with the new design.

That’s easy to understand: since 2010, 750,000 examples of the Evoque have been sold worldwide, so why fix what clearly ain’t broke?

It is expected, though, that the second-gen Evoque will take design cues from the sister Velar, particularly in the cabin, for which the larger Range Rover has received notable praise.

The same albeit heavily updated D8 architecture will once again form the base of the Evoque, but crucially, will include a stretched wheelbase to allow more cabin room in the “baby” Range Rover.

Ingenium gasoline and diesel engine options are likely to be available from launch, with power to range from 148 to just under 300 horsepower. Many have speculated a hybrid option will be available shortly thereafter, given Jaguar Land Rover’s stated target to offer at least one electrified example of every model on its lineup from 2020 onward.

This year marks the first complete overhaul of Land Rover’s surprise hit “lifestyle” SUV since its debut in 2010, and it will make its debut London this month.
