Kingsbury rules the hill in Calgary

CALGARY — Mikael Kingsbury didn’t need to take big risks to win World Cup gold Saturday.

The reigning Olympic champion from Deux-Montagnes, Que., continued his dominance of men’s moguls winning his fourth World Cup gold in three events this season.

Kingsbury won both moguls and dual moguls at a World Cup in China last month. He posted a winning score of 84.17 in Saturday’s six-man super final ahead of Walter Wallberg of Sweden with 80.98. Daichi Hara of Japan took bronze with 78.14.

Yulia Galysheva of Kazakhstan won women’s gold Saturday with 79.10 points. Montreal’s Justine Dufour-Lapointe placed fifth. Her sister Chloe placed eighth. Saskatoon’s Maia Schwingham­mer finished 11th in her World Cup debut and Sofiane Gagnon of Whistler was 13th.

Summerland’s Kripps slides way to silver

KOENIGSSEE, Germany — Canada’s Justin Kripps and Cameron Stones claimed a silver medal in World Cup bobsleigh on Saturday.

Kripps of Summerland and brakeman Stones of Whitby, Ont., were fastest in the first of two runs, but were beaten by Germany’s Francesco Friedrich and Martin Grothkopp in the second heat. Canada finished .14 seconds back of the Germans. It was the second runner-up result for Kripps and Stones in as many weeks after taking silver Jan. 5 in Altenberg, Germany.

Olympic champion Mariama Jamanka of Germany teamed with Annika Drazek to win the women’s race for their third victory in four starts this season. Edmonton’s Alysia Rissling and Kristen Bujnowski of London, Ont., had the top Canadian sled in ninth.

Langevin finds silver lining in France

FONT ROMEU, France — Canada’s Philippe Langevin earned his first career podium finish on the freestyle ski World Cup circuit, finishing second in the slopestyle competitio­n Saturday.

The 17-year-old from Mont-Tremblant, Que., skied to a score of 90.27 in his second run of the final. Alexander Hall of the United States won the event with 92.11 points and Switzerlan­d’s Andri Ragettli was third with 89.06. Langevin scored 87.63 points in his first run.

Max Moffatt of Caledon, Ont., finished a personal-best sixth with 81.12 points. It was the 20-year-old’s second career top-10 finish in slopestyle. He also finished sixth in a big air competitio­n last March in Quebec City. On the women’s side, Megan Oldham of Parry Sound, Ont., was ninth in an event won by Switzerlan­d’s Sarah Hoefflin.

Canada to play for gold at U18 worlds

OBIHIRO, Japan — Danielle Serdachny scored 44 seconds into overtime on Saturday to lift Canada to a 4-3 win over Russia and into the gold medal final at the IIHF women’s under-18 world championsh­ip.

Canada will play the United States in the championsh­ip match on Sunday.

Kirk made 10 saves in the Canadian net. Daria Gredzen stopped 26 shots for Russia.

Kuchar leads by two at the Sony Open

HONOLULU — Matt Kuchar kept another clean card and shot a 4-under 66 to take a two-shot lead into the final round of the Sony Open as he goes for his second early season win on the PGA Tour.

Corey Conners of Listowel, Ont., fired a 64 and is tied for fifth at 11-under, one stroke better than Roger Sloan of Merritt, B.C. (66).

First-round leader Adam Svensson of Surrey was in a tie for 48th at 5-under after a 70, while Abbotsford’s Adam Hadwin sat in a tie for 68th at 2-under (70).
