Lexus clips roof off its flagship coupe for stunning LC convertible concept
Lexus has pulled the sheets off of new concept: an LC Coupe minus the “Coupe” part.
Yes, Lexus has chopped the top off of its flagship LC to create a stunning concept car that most likely will preview an upcoming production model.
The regular LC coupe was touted for looking almost exactly like its concept counterpart, and Lexus doesn’t really do concept vehicles that never make it into production, so it’s pretty safe to assume that this “concept” will be hitting showrooms in the near future.
Flying-buttress-style lines run from the rear headrests to the trunk lid, and the ride height has been dropped by five millimetres. It rides on 22-inch wheels that look fantastic, but that will probably be dropped on the way to actual production in favour of 20- or 21-inch units.
Power is expected to be the same as the regular production LC, which uses a 5.0-litre V8 to make 471 horsepower. The weight will understandably be higher, as most convertible models need to add frame stiffening to counteract the lack of a roof.
“This concept takes the unmistakable design of the LC coupe and reimagines it as a future convertible,” said Tadao Mori, chief designer of the LC Convertible concept. “It blends all the best aspects of the original coupe with the dynamic design of an openair convertible.”
