Give police the latitude to put fentanyl smugglers away

-

I don’t get it — a speeder gets pulled over, the police officer senses that something is wrong and he digs a little deeper and eventually discovers 27,500 fentanyl pills.

His instincts were correct. I call this good police work. But, no. Something in the Charter of Rights was violated, allowing a guy caught red-handed to walk away. And people wonder why the public has such little confidence in the justice system.

The judge was concerned the administration of justice would be brought into disrepute if the evidence was allowed. The average, honest, taxpaying Canadian would conclude that the judge was the one who brought the justice system into disrepute.

The Charter needs to be amended to give police latitude to put these parasites away. Barry Collins, White Rock
