Israel-based brand creates custom fit with ‘anatomical footbed’ that moulds around your foot

Finding comfortable footwear that’s also stylish can be tricky — especially if you struggle with foot issues.

Naot, an Israel-based shoe brand is aiming to ease the struggle with its collection of shoes and sandals, each featuring an “anatomical footbed” that forms around the foot for a unique, customized fit. The company recently opened a new concept shop on Granville Street where shoppers can check out their collection of styles.

We caught up with Kathy Steers, a Naot branding expert, to learn more about Naot shoes, what makes them unique and why Vancouver

was the perfect fit for their products. Q. For those who aren’t familiar, what is Naot? A.

Naot is a footwear brand that offers a full line of sandals, shoes and boots, as well as a recently added full collection of winter boots and sport hikers. Handmade in Israel, the shoes are created with both fashion and health in mind. Their anatomical footbed is specially engineered to mould to the bottom of the foot, creating custom comfort — a layer of cork absorbs shock, a layer of latex moulds to the footprint and gives the ultimate in support, and a top layer of soft, breathable suede

wicks moisture.

Naot only sources the finest Italian leathers and hardware in their handmade process. Q. Is there a story behind the name? A.

Naot means “oasis” in Hebrew, and describes the “ahhh” feeling when you put on your first pair. Naots are also Shoes of Peace — they are handmade on a kibbutz in Northern Israel, and by people from many parts of the Middle East coming together to create a beautiful product. Q. What makes it different from other footwear brands? A. Naot’s Signature Footbed sets it apart from any other brand. As mentioned, the footbed has three essential components, and they come together to create the best in support and comfort. Many Naot sandals and shoes have a footbed that can be removed and replaced when worn out, refreshing and restoring both comfort and support. This removable footbed also allows for the use of a custom orthotic, and this option gives orthotic wearers many more closed and open shoe/sandal options, which is hard to find elsewhere. Q. And who is the target customer? A. Naots are a good choice for anyone who cares about their health and wants to be fashionable. We put millions of miles on our feet and our shoes provide comfort without sacrificing style. People with foot or knee pain also love to wear Naots because of the excellent support and shock absorption, plus the soft leathers, suedes and nubuck. Q.

What made this the right time to open the new store in Vancouver? A.

Vancouver has been a good market for Naots. After losing one location to a tragic fire, we finally found a great spot at 2851 Granville St. and opened with a brand new concept to freshen up the look. We are

very excited to be in this stylish neighbourhood and have had great feedback from our new local customers from the short time that we have been there. And our existing Vancouver clients who missed us are thrilled to have us back. Q. What can people expect to find in the shop? A.

People will find a full range of fall shoes and boots, plus summer sandals for both men and women. We have a beautiful mix of footwear and rich accessories. You will meet our friendly staff, who will provide you with excellent service and teach you all about our brand.
