Fun television viewing on Super Bowl Eve

- — Don Brennan

ATLANTA — Still not sure what to think of the story about a Pittsburgh TV station that fired its news producer for writing the caption “Known Cheater” under the image of Tom Brady this week.

It seemed like a harsh reaction to what Michael Telek said he did as a joke. He also claimed he was a bit worried about losing his job because he just bought a house. Yeah, that would be cause for concern.

Telek’s friends have launched a GoFundMe page to help him out, and he says that once he gets another job he will have a “Goat Giveaway” to donate the money to a charity in the name of Brady, who he maintains is the greatest quarterback ever.

The whole deal sounds a little sketchy.

Anyway, in another television related matter, I am about to take a little break from my addiction to NFL Network, which has been on my TV 24/7 since Jan. 1. But only a short one. Just to shake things up a a bit. The whole “variety is the spice of life” thing.

Then I will return to NFL Network, which I stayed up watching until 4 a.m. on Super Bowl Eve.

Of particular enjoyment was the tape delay of NFL Honors, which was hosted by Atlanta funnyman Steve Harvey and very good. Had chance to attend the event Saturday night and passed on the invitation. It was the biggest mistake I made all month, and that includes the night in New Orleans that I … oh, never mind.

Leading into NFL Honors was Mic’d Up, my personal favourite. One clip had me laughing out loud, alone in my room, like a fool.

A Houston Texan teammate of J.J. Watt is sitting beside him on the bench and says: “What do you call a peanut with a black eye?” Pause. “Assaulted.” Pause. “Assaulted peanut?” Watt is looking at him straight-faced. “You don’t have to explain it to me,” he says.

The line was funnier than the joke. And the joke was pretty good.

I did mention it was very late, right?
