RHODES, Loise A. (White)

July 5, 1923 - April 28, 2019

-

Loise was born in London, England of Canadian parents, but she soon arrived in Vancouver, BC where she attended elementary school, Point Grey Junior High and Prince of Wales High School. She went on to graduate in Arts (English) from UBC in 1945. Being a natural artist (she was the niece of H. Mabel May) she gravitated to Vancouver Art School and then the Banff School of Fine Arts where she enjoyed painting ‘en plein air’. After that she became the staff artist for the UBC Extension department and then spent several years as a commercial artist in Toronto, Ontario. The West called and, back in Vancouver, she worked as the artist for Odeon Theatres. Here she was re-acquainted with an old friend, Hugh Rhodes. He was lucky enough to have his marriage proposal accepted and together they had three children Alison, Janet and Brian (Susan) who produced four grandchildren - Max (Katie), Addie, Avery and Charlotte. Loise will be remembered for her kindness, warmth and very gracious manner; and she will be sorely missed by her husband of 65 years, Hugh, and family. Also left to cherish her memory are Ursula Badre, Alan Sutherland (Lorraine) and Ann (Dave), Alison and Lindsay Scott. The family would like to thank the many health professionals, friends, and caring individuals, especially those at Tapestry, for their greatly appreciated contribution to her comfort and enjoyment. There will be no service by request but there will be a reception in her honour at Shaughnessy Golf and Country Club at a later date.
