AMMUNDSEN, Ronald Harold

Ronald (Ron) Ammundsen died peacefully at Sunrise Senior Living on Wednesday, September 4, 2019 in Vancouver, B.C. Ron is survived by his daughters Denise (Ian) and Lisa (Bruce), and granddaughter, Naraa.

Ron was born June 24, 1933 in East York, Ontario to Margaretha and Harold Ammundsen. He is predeceased by his older sister, Ruth. Ron spent most of his childhood in Palmerston, Ontario. At the age of 15, he made his way to Winnipeg, where he began his long career in medical supplies as a delivery boy. Ron soon became a sales representative and was transferred to Saskatoon, and finally, Vancouver. He decided to start his own business in the early 70's and opened "Ammundsen Medical Supplies Ltd."in downtown Vancouver. He remained president of the business until his retirement in 1998.

Ron enjoyed many sports. He loved to ski, play tennis and squash but his most enjoyable moments were spent aboard his sailboat, the Gjoa. Ron was a member of the Jericho Tennis Club for over 60 years and the Royal Vancouver Yacht Club for over 45 years. In his rare spare time, he would travel over to his cabin on Gossip Island to relish a relaxing weekend.

Throughout his life, Ron travelled extensively. He visited well over 100 countries and kept detailed journals and photos of his trips.
