Talk about a humble abode

- — Adam Simmer

If you’re looking to move to San Diego, but don’t think you can afford to rent an apartment, why not try living in a 200-square-foot shed?

Labelled as a “studio” apartment on JD Power Management’s website, the backyard shed in the city’s pedestrian-friendly North Park neighbourhood is available for US$1,050 ($1,400) a month.

According to the listing, the shed has a kitchen with a stove and small fridge and a bathroom. It also features newer laminate flooring and an air conditioner unit.

One local resident Joe Moreno told ABC News 10 he was “amazed” the shed was listed at such a high price.

But the TV station reported the listing is about US$300 cheaper than the average studio apartment in the area. JD Property Management also said a previous tenant had rented the shed for two years at $1,100 ($1,467) a month.

Interested parties have to submit a US$35 application fee and prove their monthly income is at least 2.5 times the rental price.

No smoking or pets are allowed.
