Ding passed away on November 22 at the age of 98. He spent his childhood and early years in Hong Kong, then moved to Vancouver where his mother and grandmother were born and raised, and where he had many relatives who encouraged his future endeavours. He pursued an education at UBC, working at various jobs to pay for his tuition while raising his young family with his beloved wife Mamie by his side. Upon graduation, Ding embarked on a career as a chartered accountant, establishing his own firm after several years with the federal government. Throughout his life, Ding loved to be near the ocean. His favourite pastimes were contemplative walks along the Stanley Park Seawall, and walking, rowing and fishing at his places in Sechelt and 'Sunset'. It gave him immense pleasure to share these joys with his children, grandchildren, large extended family and friends. Later in life, he enjoyed his daily walks at Van Dusen Gardens and Queen Elizabeth Park, reading, and quiet moments in thought and reflection.

A dedicated husband and father, loyal friend, trusted colleague, and a man of integrity, Ding will be lovingly remembered by Mamie, his wife of 68 years; his children Eric (Beth), Ernest (Lynn), Brenda (Erik), Bonita (Otto); his grandchildren Leilan, Laura, Gabriel (d. 2009), Michael, Robert, Conor, Brian; his sisters-in-law and brother-in-law, and many nieces and nephews. A memorial remembrance for family and friends will be held in the Celebration Hall at Mountain View Cemetery in Vancouver, 5455 Fraser Street, on Sunday December 22, 2019 from 11:00 - 1:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers, donations in Ding's name can be made to the Heart and Stroke Foundation.
