MOHAMMAD AMIN JEBELLI

- Vanmala Subramaniam, National Post

Mohammad Amin Jebelli was a student at the Translational Research Program at the University of Toronto School of Medicine, and among six U of T students on board flight PS752. He was a practising doctor who had graduated from Tehran University of Medical Sciences, before coming to Canada in 2018 to pursue graduate studies.

A statement dedicated to Jebelli on the Translational Research Program’s website said he quickly carved out a name for himself and “built close friendships.”

Jebelli moved to Waterloo, Ont., to live with an aunt and uncle, according to his colleagues, commuting weekly into U of T’s downtown campus. He had planned to graduate from the program this year and was in the process of studying for the Medical Council of Canada qualification exam in order to practice medicine here.

“This was a young man who was quiet, gentle, soft-spoken. He was bright and clever and asked good questions and was curious about the world,” program director Joseph Ferenbok said in the statement. “All of us are completely devastated about his death.”
