Teachers in rural areas need proper internet connectivity

-

I am a kindergarten teacher who lives in Ryder Lake south of Chilliwack. I connect with my class now on Microsoft Teams.

But where I live this means I click in and out as I try to lead. The internet doesn’t work. Last week, it got so bad that the music teacher had to take over my class.

My students need me. They love me. We have deep connections and I am not able to lead our normal feelings talks, or read our novel to finish it before school ends, or teach math, or do some fun drawings.

I don’t have an internet connection that allows me to teach well. This week, I will have to drive somewhere and sit in my car in order to lead groups. This is frustrating and inconvenient as all my supplies are at home.

We need internet at Ryder Lake that works and that we can all afford. I would like to plead with government to help rural communities gain good and affordable internet during the COVID-19 crisis at Ryder Lake.

Red flags for U.S. health group

Writer Kenneth Lawrence lauds hydroxychloroquine as the panacea solution to the

COVID-19 virus, citing its recommendation by the prestigious-sounding American Association of Physicians and Surgeons.

After doing an internet search a lot of red flags came up that made me question the group’s validity. It advocates a range of discredited hypothesis, and is at wide variance with mandated health policies in the U.S.

For example, the group opposes all forms of universal health care and insurance. It doesn’t believe HIV causes AIDS. It believes that there is a link between breast cancer and abortion. And it supports the notion that vaccinations promote autism.

Now they are advocating the unproven hydroxychloroquine hypothesis, which has also been seriously questioned by the greater medical community.

Based on their track record, I would be highly skeptical of any recommendations this group makes.

No need to rush reopening

It is pretty obvious that Kenneth Lawrence, from Surrey, has been watching too much American TV. Everyone is suffering during this time, but it doesn’t make any sense to “end the lockdown” prematurely.

Our governments, provincially and federally, as well as our doctors in charge, are doing a great job keeping us informed about the situation. As the old saying goes, “Slow and steady wins the race.” Be careful what you wish for.

Legal gun owners punished

Banning assault rifles is good. But the disrespect that Justin Trudeau showed for law-abiding gun owners is amazing.

Media coverage broke over the weekend that revealed that there are more bans coming. The facts remain, none of these Liberal policies will do anything to stop gun smuggling at the border, or keep guns out of the hands of criminals.

Punishing law-abiding gun owners is not the answer.
