ROWLAND, Roy Richard

Aug. 11, 1937 - May 22, 2020

With heavy hearts we share the passing of the most wonderful man. Roy was a loving husband, the best Dad and friend we could have. Roy is survived by his loving wife of 60 years Margaret (nee MacAskill) and his daughter Dianne & partner Steve, his son Derek, his brother Norm, sister Lorna and many nieces & nephews, dear friends & family along with his faithful furry companion Ben. Predeceased by mother Helen (nee Simms) and father Richard.

Dad proudly served as a Vancouver Fire Fighter for 37 years and retired as Battalion Chief in 1997. Roy (also known as "Lurch") loved his career with the VFD, especially the friendships and brotherhood he shared amongst his crews.

He was known for his love of sports, especially football, hockey and fishing. Dad & Mom explored many fishing lakes throughout BC, with wonderful memories made with good friends Arv & Alice. Over 30 years of special family vacations were spent in Osoyoos, where Dad was famous for his story telling around the campfires with all the kids.

Always a hard worker with a tremendous work ethic, he also led a simple and happy life, with his number one focus always being his family. We are enormously proud and grateful to have had him as our Dad and Husband, and he will be deeply missed.

We would like to thank the incredible ICU team of nurses and doctors at Abbotsford Hospital for the care and dedication you gave.

No service by request. In honour of his remembrance, donations to the BCSPCA, or BC Kidney Foundation is appreciated.
