UNGER, Ruben

-

April 2, 1956 - May 20, 2020

Ruben was born in Colonia Menno, Chaco, Paraguay. Ruben was the 7th child of 9. Ruben's family left Paraguay in 1960 to go to Manitoba, Canada, then moved to B.C. in 1966. Predeceased by mother Tina (Toews) and father Heinrich Unger. Ruben is survived by his son Cole Unger, daughter Shaina Kendrick (Peter) and grandson Levi, and Susan Zonailo (Nick). He is also survived by siblings Henry (Berta), Ruth, Martha, Tina, Lil, Klara (Perry), George (Lauren), and Jake, and honorary brother Zahi. Ruben was blessed to have a large loving family, and cherished group of friends and business associates. Also remembered by Gabriel Young, Holly (Andrew) Funaro and their children Lucas and Roman. Ruben grew up working alongside his father as a finishing carpenter, then went on to become an ironworker and in 1984 started his own commercial and residential construction company. Ruben loved hunting and fishing with family and friends, he was also a talented artist. Behind a tough exterior Ruben was a kind and generous man, always there to help his family, friends and strangers. Ruben fought a valiant 10-month battle with cancer and passed away peacefully with his children at his bedside. We will be holding a celebration of life when we can safely gather. Ruben always enjoyed a good party, food and drink, and of course a good/bad joke. Donations can be made to B.C. Cancer Foundation.
