1940 - 2020 Dunkirk: "A Miracle of Deliverance"
Few alive today recall the impossible situation 80 years ago when a free people experienced fear, terror, oppressive propaganda, and the threats of invasion, loss of freedoms and rights, and slavery. A huge British Expeditionary Force in France that was driven to the sea at Dunkirk faced annihilation. King George VI declared a Day of Prayer for May 26th and millions around the world prayed. A storm of unprecedented fury grounded enemy aircraft, uncharacteristic calm seas settled on the English Channel for the 10 day evacuation allowing the smallest boats to cross, and a flotilla of 850 "Little Ships" crossed. The Daily Telegraph reported that the "prayers of the nation were answered" making possible what had seemed impossible with 335,000 rescued! We remember those who made the ultimate sacrifice, those like Rees Howells who earnestly prayed, and Churchill's declaration that it was "a miracle of deliverance".
