What are we cooking up NOW?

- — Rita DeMontis

First it was bread, then it was soup. Now we’re going all in with such foods as comfort classics including chocolate chip cookies!

The COVID-19 pandemic hasn’t stopped all budding culinary stars from showing their prowess on social networks — and it all looks delicious. And we’re only getting started! RetailMeNot.ca has recently shared results from SEMRush, (a data trends provider) that tracked and analyzed Google search volume to find out which recipes people were most interested in cooking up.

And want to guess what three out of the top five recipes were? Yep, bread.

Here are the current ten most-Googled recipes (and who knows what next week holds — coq au vin anyone?) :

Whipped coffee: This viral drink, known as Dalgona Coffee and inspired by a South Korean candy, calls for only four ingredients (instant coffee, sugar, water and milk)—and a lot of arm strength.

Bread: Perfect for sandwiches, toast and even good for freezing, bread makes one of the most useful edible items to have laying around.

Sourdough: The popular bread variety uses a fermentation process that takes a bit longer than other breads, but can also make it quite nutritious.

Banana bread: Chrissy Teigen is well known for her banana bread (even crowdsourcing brown bananas on Twitter), so her recipe is the one we’ll certainly be reaching for.

Cinnamon roll: Ooey, gooey warm and fluffy cinnamon rolls are what we dream of at night. The baked soft spiral is drizzled with vanilla or cream cheese frosting out of the oven for the tastiest of treats.

Cinnamon bun: Not to be confused with cinnamon rolls, cinnamon buns (or sticky buns) are baked with a caramel glaze, and often paired with crunchy pecans or walnuts.

Pizza dough: In the mood for pizza? Easy to whip up with ingredients from your pantry, just add your favorite toppings or whatever is left in the fridge for an easy weeknight meal.

Chocolate chip cookies: It’s no surprise these classic cookies are on the list. Just try to eat only one, we dare you.

Brownies: This dessert is a go-to for chocolate lovers. Try yours right out of the oven with a scoop of vanilla ice cream.

Apple pie: As they say — as American as apple pie!
