WINTON, Sylvia Milada

Sylvia Milada Winton (nee Downs) died peacefully on June 15, 2020.
Adored sister of Barry Downs and wife Mary, Loving Aunt to Bill Downs and Elizabeth Hewer, (Bruce) and Colleen Winton and Scott Winton.
Sylvia was born in Vancouver and early years were spent in West Point Grey, with father, William Arthur Downs, Mother, Milada Marie Downs, brother Barry and Chummy, her beloved dog. There she met her life-long friend Davida Beedle (Sloan) who shared her love for horse riding and the outdoors. Sylvia attended York House School, where she excelled in her studies and especially at tennis.
With doubles partner Lee Davenport, she entered tournaments in Vancouver, Washington State and Oregon. Sylvia's many trophy's attest to her competitive spirit, and winning ways.
Sylvia attended UBC and joined Gamma Phi Beta Sorority. Her friendships with others lasted into adult life. They were called the Gang of Six. In June 1961 Sylvia married John Winton.
For many years they enjoyed an active life of square dancing. Sylvia was a gracious hostess, John's critic, the sound engineer, and the supportive cause of happy memories, and wonderful friendships.

As well, the family wishes to thank niece Colleen Winton and partner Neil for management services and dealing with Sylvia's increasing health requirements. In addition, we would like to thank Dr. Wayne Smith for his years of attention. A celebration of Sylvia's life will be held at a later date.
