Griffin tweets ‘it wasn’t me’ after shooting near White House

-

Kathy Griffin took to Twitter on Monday to jokingly assure her followers she had nothing to do with a reported shooting outside the White House.

U.S. President Donald Trump was abruptly hustled out of a press conference by security due to the incident, and Griffin, a renowned critic of the businessman-turnedpolitician, couldn’t help but inject some humour into the situation.

“It wasn’t me,” tweeted the 59-year-old comedian, minutes after news of the shooting broke.

Though she did not directly mention the incident or tag Trump in her tweet, Griffin’s followers were quick to catch on to the subject of her cryptic tweet.

Minutes after his impromptu evacuation, Trump returned to the White House briefing room and revealed the details of the shooting to the press, as reported by CNN. “There was a shooting outside of the White House and it seems to be very well under control. I’d like to thank the Secret Service for doing their always quick and very effective work,” he began. When asked if the White House had been breached in any way, he replied: “I don’t think the person breached anything. I don’t believe anything was breached. I asked that question.”

Griffin has proven over the years that she is no fan of Donald Trump, and notably shared footage of herself with a severed Donald Trump head art piece in 2017, which sparked a wave of outrage and debate. The funnywoman lost endorsement deals and was removed from her co-hosting duties of CNN’s New Year’s Eve coverage as a result of her actions.
