Blow up on the Bachelorette

- MARK DANIELL

Clare Crawley is about to

take The Bachelorette into uncharted territory.

ABC dropped a drama-filled trailer last week for the 16th season of the dating series, in which host Chris Harrison tells Crawley, “Congratulations, you've just blown up The

Bachelorette.”

Crawley, 39, was the runnerup on the 18th edition of The

Bachelor featuring Juan Pablo Galavis. Shortly after filming began, rumours swirled that the hairstylist had fallen in love after only a few episodes and will be replaced by franchise alum Tayshia Adams, whom fans will remember from Colton Underwood's season.

The new trailer didn't allude to Adams' appearance, but it hints that this season will be full of unexpected twists and turns.

“Drama this soon is a little bit crazy,” Crawley says at one point. We also see her scold one of her potential suitors before sending him home.

“I'm not done yet,” he says, to which she replies, “You are done — get out of here!”

Elsewhere in the promo, one romantic hopeful looks anxiously at Crawley and says,

“My heart's pounding,” while another yells at a rival off camera, “We caught you in a lie.”

Crawley is also seen kissing a blindfolded contestant in the trailer, saying to one person, whom we don't see, “I'm so falling in love with you.”

“You don't know what's going to happen,” one tearful suitor says summing up the action.

Producers have yet to confirm that Crawley exits the show early, but in August,

People reported that Adams stepped in as the new Bachelorette after the former found love with one of her original suitors when the show paused production in March due to the coronavirus pandemic.

“One of her potential guys found a way to get in touch with her and they began talking,” the source told the mag. “By the time filming officially began, they were basically already in love. No one else stood a chance. It just became so obvious from her subsequent few dates that her heart wasn't in it and she just wasn't feeling it. Then she said she wanted out.”

Adams, 30, was waiting in the wings as a backup, the source added. “What remains to be seen is if more men will be brought in now to give Tayshia a full roster of suitors.”
