There have been 366 new cases of COVID-19 reported over the past three days and four deaths.

Provincial health officer Dr. Bonnie Henry said there are now 1,987 active cases in the province, of which 60 are being treated in hospital. including 21 in intensive care.

She said 121 cases were reported between noon Friday and noon Saturday; 117 cases between noon Saturday and noon Sunday; and 128 cases between noon Sunday and noon Monday.

“We definitely are seeing a resurgence,” Henry said.

There have been 8,208 cases recorded in B.C. since the pandemic appeared here in late January, and 227 people have died, mostly people aged around 85 with pre-existing health problems.

Two of the deaths over the past three days were in Vancouver

Coastal Health, with one each in Fraser Health and Northern Health. Henry said this was the second person to die in Northern Health. The only long-term care facility death among the four was at Point Grey Hospital, which has now had four deaths.

She said there are 3,233 people in quarantine after being exposed to people who tested positive for COVID-19.

There are 15 outbreaks in health-care facilities, including one that occurred over the past three days at the Yaletown House nursing home, where one worker has tested positive.

Henry said there have been no new community outbreaks, but there have been many community exposures.

A community outbreak is declared when more than one person at a single location is infected (outside health-care facilities that declare outbreaks with a single case). A community exposure occurs when a COVID-19 positive person has been in a public space while sick, leading to anyone who they came into contact with being notified by health authorities.

Henry said there have been a number of exposures at schools in B.C., but no outbreaks or clusters. Most of the cases were among adults, she said.
