Outstanding work undone by irresponsible snap election

-

Sadly, all of the outstanding work that this government, in conjunction with Dr. Bonnie Henry and her team, has undertaken since the arrival of the COVID-19 pandemic has now been completely undone by NDP Leader John Horgan calling a self-centred, purely political, and entirely irresponsible snap election.

It flies in the face of every guideline put forward, particularly as our COVID numbers seem to be heading toward a potential second wave in the fall. I have never voted NDP but planned to do so once their elected term came to its conclusion and at a time when COVID was hopefully less of an issue.

No doubt Horgan will cash in on his current level of popularity but he and his party will not be getting my vote now.

Horgan deserves support

I'm not convinced this is a good time to call an election, but John Horgan has handled himself admirably during the pandemic, and continues to do so.

We don't know what is going on behind the scenes. It might be inconsistent with what he sees as the good of the people of British Columbia, which I truly feel is what he is focused on.

As a diehard Democrat, I will stay and I hope all of British Columbia will give him a chance, for the good of us all.

I don't think it's time to change.

Let's give Horgan a chance to see us through this uncertain time.

Agreement broken

B.C. has a legislated, fixed-date election schedule so that everyone knows when votes will be held and so that politicians can't game the system.

John Horgan, you have a signed commitment to the B.C. Green party to govern until the next fixed election date — October 2021. Calling an early election breaks your deal and violates the intent of the legislation. There is nothing today, including the pandemic, that justifies abandoning your job and putting the people of B.C. through the stress and expense of an unnecessary election.

Many voters hold you in high regard for your handling of the pandemic but will resent your attempt to use it to justify an early election call.

Election a cause of anxiety

I have been very impressed and supportive of our provincial government's handling of this viral environment up until I heard of this election news.

With COVID-19 surging and the election called during the flu season, this causes me, and I'm certain many others, great anxiety and concern.

Personally, I am furious. I am 68 years old and as a result I am in the bull's-eye. This does not need to happen now. This is purely a power grab of a very self-serving nature with little or no regard for public health.
