HORZEN, Amy (Emma)

-

Amy was born in Vancouver on February 13, 1931. She lived in New Westminster for a brief period of time, then moved with her mother to Vancouver. She passed away peacefully on September 22, 2020 at Vancouver Hospital. Her childhood was spent in the vibrant Strathcona area, where she not only helped in the family store, but also attended school and formed close relationships with a group of friends who would remain an important part of her life for decades. She also found new friends at Legacy where she spent her last few years.

Her early career included a stint as a comptometer operator at BA Oil, then when her family went into the hotel business in Vancouver, she worked with them until the hotel was sold. Amy worked hard and contributed significantly to the success of this family venture.

It was after the family business was sold that Amy embarked on a new and happy time in her life. She travelled extensively and became increasingly involved in sports, joining the Marine Drive Golf Club and the Arbutus Club, where she was an enthusiastic swimmer, tennis player and pickleball player. She also took up skiing and, later on, bridge. Amy also enjoyed going to the casino. She was very busy living a full life. In these years she was hard to miss, driving around in her 1973 Cadillac Eldorado that she finally retired after 40 years.

Amy was predeceased by her mother Martha and her stepfather Stojan Kosutich. She will be missed by a wide circle of friends and surviving relatives.

A private service will be held at a later date. Anyone wishing to remember Amy may do so by making a donation to their favourite charity.

From the end spring new beginnings.
