ALFELD, Ferruccio Antonio Amerigo
Jan 27, 1937 - Dec 18, 2020
Ferruccio Antonio Amerigo Alfeld (also known as "Alfie") was born in San Remo, Italy, on January 27, 1937. On December 18, 2020, he died as a result of COVID-19. Alfie is survived by his wife Phyllis of 50 years, his beloved daughter Teresa Marie Alfeld (Nick Gibas), as well as family in Milan, Munich, Winnipeg and Toronto. Alfie was predeceased by his brothers Franco (2008) and Willy (2017).
Ferruccio came to Canada in 1956 and worked in various architectural offices in Vancouver before joining BCIT where he spent 20 years as an instructor in building technology. Ferruccio enjoyed doing the New York Times daily crossword, CBC radio, jazz, opera, classical guitar and other forms of music, architecture and design, history and most things Italian. He had a keen interest in the restoration of military vehicles, and Alfie was never happier than when he was working on his trucks, or participating in a parade with the Military Vehicle Preservation Assoc. He also never tired of assembling intricate scale models of military vehicles often with the supervision of the family cats. Alfie was intelligent, accepting of others, generous, and eccentric. He possessed a droll sense of humour and we will miss seeing that twinkle in his eye as he recited an Ogden Nash poem, told a long complicated joke or made a clever (or not-so-clever) pun.
Sadly in 2010 when Alfie was diagnosed with dementia his world began to grow smaller. With his wife Phyllis and daughter Teresa as his caregivers he was able to live in the home he loved until 2015 when he moved into residential care. Sogni d'oro padre. We miss you already.
