Nanaimo death was homicide, police say
The suspicious death of a Nanaimo man whose body was found two weeks ago is now considered a homicide, Mounties say.
The body of 58-year-old Randell Charles Thomas was found in bushes off a dirt walking trail near Tamara Drive around 6:45 p.m. on March 31.
Nanaimo RCMP released Thomas's name and photo Wednesday in the hopes it could help investigators, who believe the man was involved in an altercation that led to his death.
“At this time, it is unknown if there was more than one individual involved in the altercation,” said Const. Gary O'Brien of the Nanaimo RCMP.
Thomas didn't live in the area where his body was found. At the time of his death, Thomas was wearing dark clothing, including a black hoodie with a white logo on the front.
Investigators are asking anyone who was in the area between 2:45 and 4:45 p.m. on March 1, or motorists who may have dashcam video during
that time period, to contact the Nanaimo RCMP Serious Crime Unit at 250-7542345.
