Thayers Facial Toner Alcohol-Free Witch Hazel
What it is: A lineup of facial toners from the new-to-Canada brand Thayers.
The products offer the power of witch hazel to gently pH balance skin, without the use of any harsh alcohol. In addition to the non-distilled witch hazel, which is grown at a family farm in Connecticut, the formulas also include aloe vera to soothe the skin.
“By avoiding distillation of our witch hazel, we're able to preserve the naturally occurring, beneficial tannins, which are known for their antioxidant benefits,” according to the brand. The collection of facial toners features a variety of scents, including lavender, rose petal and cucumber. There is also an unscented option.
What we say: No strangers to facial toners, our testers tried this product in place of their usual go-tos. Applied to freshly cleansed skin with a reusable facial pad or cotton puff, our testers found the product was non-irritating and left skin feeling soft and looking “glow-y,” one said.
The scented versions add a nice subtle fragrance without being overpowering. The rose was a favourite for one tester, while the cucumber was the favourite of another.
While the scent preference may have differed among our testers, one thing remained the same: They both loved how this witch hazel toner left their skin looking and feeling, and both said it's become a regular in their skin care rotations.
