ROCA, Maria Mabel Butalid

Maria Mabel Butalid Roca a Registered Nurse and resident of Surrey, British Columbia, Canada died unexpectedly on April 5, 2021 at the age of 62 after recovering from a kidney transplant.

Mabel or GrandMama as she is called by her Apo’s (grandchildren) was a devoted wife and grandmother and is survived by her husband Roy F. Roca, children Rochelle Roca, Michelle MacMaster, Roy B Roca, Roia Roca, Isa Roca and their respective spouses Laura Stuart, Eric MacMaster and Dalisay Roca as well as grandchildren Annika, Annebelle, Luke and Liam.

Born in Baybay, Leyte, Philippines on September 11, 1958 to Carlos Butalid and Ana Sapinet. She’s the 8th child of 10 siblings - brothers Nello (predeceased). Alexius (predeceased), Cletus, Achilleus, Giovinale, Joris, Gamaliel and sisters Agnes and Mary.

Mabel is a graduate of the Registered Nursing Program at Langara College and worked in St. Paul’s Hospital as an RN from 2002 to 2018. Her passion for music made her a choir leader of the Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Parish.

A final viewing is scheduled for 11:30 a.m. on April 20, 2021 at Our Lady of Mercy Parish on 10th Ave and 12th St. Burnaby. This will be followed by a funeral Mass at 1:00 p.m. The indoor Mass is limited to 9 participants due to Covid, therefore it will be live streamed on You Tube Live for those who wish to attend (OLM Burnaby).
