ANDERSON, Garth Gregory

Nov 22, 1950 - Feb 26, 2021

Garth died suddenly at Boat Nook on Pender Island after walking the dog there to watch the sunset. It was one of his favourite things to do.

Born in Vancouver, he went to school in Port Moody and went on to UBC. In 1988, he and a pal he met through an ad at Mountain Equipment Coop, cycled across Canada, down to New York, and flew to Europe to cycle there. Other cycling adventures included down to Mexico, the Okanagan, and Calgary. Upon his return home he decided to go back to school to further his passion for physics. After he finished school, he went to work at CTF Systems in research and development and then moved on to Creo Products where he remained until he retired. His love of physics remained throughout his life. In his quiet time, he would work on challenging problems the way some of us would work on a crossword puzzle or read a book. As his Cousin Tom said, "Garth was such a unique person, unafraid to do things his own way, and he always looked at things in a scientific way. He was the only guy I knew who would read physics and math books for fun."

Much time was spent over the years camping: with family at beaches, hiking in the Rockies with Patricia's brother Doug and sister-in-law Lynda, travelling down to the California desert or to Mexico on two occasions.

Garth also loved playing tennis, attending Socrates Cafe, walking his dog Kinza, and visiting friends on Pender Island.

Garth will be sadly missed by his partner Patricia, her children Bonnie (Mike), Tim (Lisa), Christian (Maria), and Jennifer (Martin), thirteen grandchildren and two greatgrandchildren, and his brother Ken, along with cousins Tom, Hugh, and Robin.

Patricia would like to express thanks to the first responders, to Dr. Rebner, and to all of the people who have offered so much assistance and support.
