Living next to nature sounds pretty good after a year spent glued to our computers. One option for people ready to leave the hustle and bustle is Harrison Highlands, a sustainable river-view community in Agassiz.

Residents can easily connect to nature whenever they please, not only because of the location, but because the homes make a minimal impact on the planet.

“We made a conscious decision about four years ago to build all our homes to the Energy Star standard. At a minimum, we’re 30 per cent more efficient than a typical built house in B.C.,” says Nathan Stone, managing partner at Odessa Group, the company developing Harrison Highlands. “We believe in being progressive as builders. That’s a core part of our company.”

Some of the most exciting sustainability features include triple-pane windows, added insulation in the walls, ceilings and floors, and a basic solar panel package. Even outside the home, the 90-acre development has its own water system, including a well on the property that pumps to its filtration plant. The plant then uses a combination of bio and nano filters to treat the water, so there are no chemicals added.

Indoors, homes are equipped with Energy Star appliances and whole-home ventilation systems driven by high-efficiency air source heat pumps. This means cheaper utility bills, and residents can feel good about reducing their impact on the planet while they unwind.

When it’s complete, Harrison Highlands will include 350 homes crowned by mountains and embraced by the Fraser and Harrison Rivers. The community is surrounded by an outdoor playground, complete with moving, panoramic views dotted with soaring eagles and other wildlife.

“It really is that beauty and that serenity that draws people here,” says Stone.

The saying “live where you play” is more than a tagline for Harrison Highlands. It’s a way of life.

“I could be salmon fishing in six minutes. I could be on [the river] kayaking in the same six minutes. I can get to Harrison Hot Springs in 14 minutes, and I can be at Sasquatch skiing in 20 minutes,” says Stone.

Harrison Highlands is in stage two of development (out of six), with only 10 lots left to sell in this phase. Don’t miss out on these beautiful semi-customized Craftsman-style homes, built to the buyers’ tastes after 15 months of construction.
