DEGEER, James Walter
Jan 11, 1933 - Apr 19, 2021
Jim passed away at home, surrounded by loved ones who gave him exceptional care. He was a fighter who overcame many health problems that presented themselves.
Jim was born to Edna and Walter DeGeer in Toronto and lived there until the age of 12 when the family moved to Bowmanville. He left there when he joined the RCMP.
He leaves behind his wife of 62 years, Gladys; his son, Brian (Cherry), granddaughters Lulu and Phoebe; son, Michael (Mary), grandchildren Sam, Katie, Aaron and James; and daughter Kim (Rick) and granddaughters Meghan, Jenna (Tyrone), and Kristen. Also great-grandson Callum and brother-in-law Bob Thompson.
Jim served in the RCMP from 1953 to 1978 in Vancouver, North Van, and mostly in Ottawa in "J" and "E" Ops. He had many a tale to tell of his adventures there - and he could tell a story! He also developed many long-standing friendships there.
After Jim left the RCMP he was employed by Maple Ridge School District, then was employed by the Federal Government in the Computer Department at EI.
After finally retiring, he took up woodworking - canoes, furniture and toys, etc. He took great pride in the finished product, and many have been passed on to the next generation. He and Glady did some cruising and enjoyed many trips - to the UK, Scotland, Ireland, Europe, Australia, NZ, the US, Mexico and Hawaii.
Due to COVID the Celebration of Life will be held in the summer or fall.
