JORDAN, Ralph David
July 4, 1933 - April 30, 2021
Ralph was born in Vancouver on July 4, 1933. His early years were spent in Squamish and then lived the rest of his life in Vancouver. Ralph battled with COPD and passed away peacefully at the VGH on April 30, 2021. Ralph is survived by his 3 adult children: Catherine (Steve), Barbara (Karl) & David (Amornrat) and 7 grandchildren: Jordan (Amie), Stephen (Dania), Nathan (Ash), Michael (Mel), Matthew, Mark (Callan) & Catherine. Ralph was a born entrepreneur with a passion for business. By grade 10, he entered the "School of Street Smarts" where his work ethic, optimism and vision helped him flourish. He never looked back. Ralph and his wife Mary together built a business and raised their family. Ralph had a keen mind for seeing "possibilities and potential". He applied this vision and passion as a labourer, truck driver, car salesman, house builder, business owner and hotelier. Like a master chess player, Ralph was always looking ahead, anticipating strategic moves. He was humble; Ralph never forgot how he started out and those who helped him along the way. Ralph discovered boating in 1972 and it continued as a passion for many years. He was actively involved with the RVYC and in 1989 he served as Commodore. Ralph assumed a broad range of roles: son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and friend. He excelled as a grandfather and would go to great lengths to be involved in their lives - attending school events, travelling to meet them anywhere in the world and indulging them as a proud grandfather. Ralph enjoyed traveling, whether cruising to Alaska on his boat, visiting game parks in Zimbabwe, and everywhere in between. He'd try anything even once even skydiving at age 80 with his grandsons. We would like to express our gratitude to the staff at VGH who exemplified kindness and compassion to Ralph and his family during his final days. You will be missed Ralph. Bon Voyage till we meet again. A Memorial Service will be determined at a later date.
