It is with profound sorrow that we announce the passing of our dear Art, surrounded at home by his family after a courageous battle with cancer. Predeceased by his father, Donald, and survived by his mother, Patricia, wife, Cindy, and children Luke (Martin), Emily, Daniel (Stuart), James (Kathleen), and expected twin grandsons. Also survived by siblings, Gordon, Burnice, Cynthia, Katherine, and Robert and their families, and mother-in-law, Norma Monteith. Art was born in Vancouver and grew up on Brunswick Point in Ladner, BC. On the farm, he learned the value of a strong work ethic, honesty, and family. Art graduated from BCIT as a surveyor in 1975 and started work with BC Hydro. He completed the Urban Land Economics diploma at UBC and joined BC Gas, becoming a property representative until he retired in 2011 and opened his own consulting business. Art married Cindy in 1984 and had four children whom they raised in Ladner. He was a devoted husband of 37 years and a present and supportive father. He loved spending time with his family, especially camping and at the family cabin on Pender Island. After retirement, Art and Cindy enjoyed extensive traveling with family and friends. Art was a valued member of the Ladner community. He was involved as a leader with Scouts Canada for many years, as well as a soccer and softball coach. He was greatly interested in family history and the history of Ladner, and was happy to pass on his knowledge. Art's kind nature touched many lives and he was loved by all who knew him. He will be forever missed and our North Star will always be there to guide us. Many thanks to Dr. Hsia and the amazing doctors and nurses VGH and BC Cancer Agency.
