Hells Angel found dead in Surrey
Police say no indication of foul play in Alberta biker's death
The Surrey RCMP and the B.C. Coroners Service are investigating after a full-patch Hells Angel from Alberta was found dead in a Surrey RV park Thursday.
Darcy Lee, 45, had been staying at the Brownsville RV Park, at 11940 Old Yale Rd., for about two weeks, an employee at the park told Postmedia.
She said it was hard to know how long the man had been dead, but that he was found Thursday.
Sources confirmed the man who died was Lee, a member of the Westridge chapter of the Hells Angels, based in Edmonton.
Sgt. Elenore Sturko said Surrey RCMP had opened a file on Lee's death, but that there was no indication of foul play.
On Thursday afternoon, several B.C. Hells Angels arrived at the RV park after learning of their fellow biker's demise.
The reason for Lee's visit to B.C. is unknown. Hells Angels from other provinces often travel to this province for commemorative club “rides” and annual anniversary events. But those activities have all been cancelled for more than a year due to the pandemic.
Lee was a former Northern Alberta bodybuilding champion.
He had a criminal history in Alberta.
In April 2016, he was sentenced to 30 days in jail and a year's probation after pleading guilty to assault with a weapon for attacking a rival biker with the Warlocks Motorcycle Club in a Drayton Valley tattoo parlour and laundromat.
Warlock Rocky Buzzell was hit twice in the back with a broken table leg during the fight, which involved several Hells Angels.
Alberta Court of Queen's Bench Justice Vital Ouellette accepted that Lee's assault was “spontaneous” and that Buzzell wasn't injured.
“Lucky thing you didn't hurt him,” Ouellette told Lee, according to an Edmonton Journal article about the sentencing.
More serious charges of robbery, intimidation and committing an offence in association with a criminal organization were withdrawn against Lee and others charged in the 2014 attack.
According to an agreed statement in facts, Lee and fellow Hells Angels Eduardo Bartolozzi and Troy Pawluk were members of the Westridge chapter at the time.
