BERRYHILL, Thomas Charles

-

Thomas C. Berryhill, gracefully and peacefully, passed away on June 7, 2021, in his Vancouver home at the close of his courageous battle with Leukemia. A beautiful soul is lost from our lives. We are grateful he found freedom and quiet peace.

Born in Kansas City Missouri in 1944, raised in Niagara Falls New York, and educated at Pennsylvania State University, State College Pennsylvania, these early years gave him a love of big ideas, of inventing, and of envisioning the future. When he moved to Canada in 1969, his interests and skills focused on emerging computer technologies where he built innovative hardware and software designed to accomplish unforeseen tasks. He ran a sales force team that gained international recognition. By 1978, he made his permanent home in Vancouver BC where he continued to thrive as a software architect and consultant.

Throughout his career, Tom sought innovative new pathways and processes to see, understand and manage our world. He generously supported his many diverse clients and shared his knowledge and technical expertise with friends, family and thousands of lifelong learners who attended his varied courses at the University of British Columbia. His broad interests lead him to create beautiful digital art works and original music as well as poetry and a published book.

Tom will be remembered for his beautiful mind and generous heart. Both a visionary and pragmatist, he sought wisdom and truth through science, art, technology, philosophy, and verse. He approached life as an optimist, a caring empathetic man with endless patience and tenacity.

He is deeply loved and missed by his wife Jane Hutton, his sister Susan B. Hill, his extended family of in-laws, nieces, nephews, cousins living across the country, dear friends, and the many people he touched throughout his life. He is predeceased by his mother, father, and stepmother (Katherine D. Berryhill, Charles C. Berryhill, and Betty Berryhill).

The family is planning a small event to celebrate the richness of his life.

If you wish, donations can be made to Emily Carr University, in memory of Thomas Berryhill. www.ecuad.ca As President of the ICAS - International Computer Arts Society, Tom loved supporting student scholarships.
