ZACHARUK, Frances Joan

April 10, 1937 – June 13, 2021

Fran passed away peacefully on June 13, 2021 at the age of 84 with her family by her side. Predeceased by her husband Jack (2011), she was a loving and devoted mother to her 5 children: Mike (Lynn), Liz (Steve), John (Pam), Ed (Dina), Fran (Tom) and loving Nanny to 15 grandchildren: Zach, Jackson, Jaclynn, Johnny, Stephanie, Michelle, Emily, Amanda, Sammi, Brittney, Grace, Markus, Lincoln, Kate, and Jake. Fran also leaves to mourn brother Bob (Barb) Stewart, sister Gerry (Bernie) Sandberg, and many extended family and friends. Fran was born in Vancouver and spent the majority of her life in Burnaby. She enjoyed an active lifestyle. Naturally gifted and athletic she played many sports throughout her youth and adult life—specializing in volleyball and bowling for which she was quite exceptional. Socially gifted and primed with enthusiasm and passion for friends and community, Fran kept busy and busier still, as a member of the Girl Guides, attended Seton Academy and was a lifelong member of St. Theresa’s Parish including serving as President of the CWL. Fran cherished and treasured her family, always putting others first before her own needs, supporting them in all their life’s pursuits. As a sports enthusiast, she particularly looked forward to coaching and cheering on her children and grandchildren in their various sports—and was happy to travel any distance to watch them play. Summers, holidays, and free time were spent with family and friends at their family cottage in Point Roberts, Washington where she would while away afternoons on the beach or in the yard serving food and drinks. Fran’s love of life and festivities (including corny jokes) was legendary, and she attacked both with zest and reckless abandon. Fran lived a rich and full life: loving family and good friends are worth their weight in gold. Prayers will be offered at 7 p.m. on Monday June 21, at Precious Blood Parish, 17475 59 Ave, Surrey, BC where Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 1 p.m. Tuesday June 22. Interment Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Burnaby B.C. Due to COVID restrictions we will hold a Celebration of Life at a later date. In lieu of flowers donations can be made to the Alzheimer Society of B.C.
