Acuna back on Braves' active roster

Star batted .368 in triple-A rehab stint

Atlanta Braves star Ronald Acuna Jr. returned to the active roster Thursday for the first time since tearing his right ACL last July.

The 24-year-old outfielder batted .368 with one RBI and three stolen bases in six games at triple-A Gwinnett. The team previously targeted May 6 for the return of the two-time all-star, per reports.

Acuna was enjoying a monster season with 24 homers and 52 RBIs in 82 games last year before sustaining the injury on July 10. Atlanta went on to win the World Series without him.

Giants' Pederson to undergo MRI

San Francisco Giants outfielder Joc Pederson will have an MRI on Thursday after exiting Wednesday's game with tightness in his right groin.

Pederson, who is batting .353 through 16 games, was injured while running to second base in the third inning of the Giants' 1-0 loss against the Oakland Athletics.

“I was trying to get in the way of the throw and took a bad step and just felt a little bit of tightness in my groin,” he told reporters after the game. “I kind of just took a weird step at a weird angle and it tightened up.”

Pederson, 30, leads the National League in slugging percentage (.745) and has six home runs with 10 RBIs during his first season with the Giants.

Padres' Myers on DL with thumb woes

The San Diego Padres placed Wil Myers on the 10-day injured list with a right thumb contusion and selected the contract of fellow outfielder Trayce Thompson from triple-A El Paso.

The Padres moved righthander Austin Adams to the 60-day IL to make room on the 40-man roster for Thompson.

Myers' IL stint is retroactive to Wednesday. He has been dealing with thumb soreness for much of the opening month of the season and reportedly aggravated the injury Tuesday. He was batting .218 with a .527 OPS over his first 15 games with three doubles and no home runs.
