Jeep grills come with scan-able codes you can use to shop
If you're a Canadian and a Jeep lover, it might be time to download Snapchat again.
Jeep Canada has released a new digital program called Jeep Code that uses a smart filter built into the social media app to allow users to scan the front grill of any Jeep with their phone's camera then get redirected to online information on the model, a configurator for their own build, and even avenues for local purchase.
Jeep says it hopes the technology, which uses machine learning and augmented reality to essentially turn the seven-slot grill of any Jeep model into a corresponding bar code, will help streamline young buyers' journeys.
“The new Jeep Code lens provides our Jeep enthusiasts a revolutionary, new, virtual shopping experience with an easy point of their smartphone,” William Levasseur, vice-president of sales and marketing at Jeep Canada, said. “More and more, vehicle purchases are being conducted in the digital realm and this is a great way for new or potential customers to instantaneously experience the Jeep showroom at their convenience, learn about our exciting vehicle lineup, search available inventory and connect with a local dealer.”
The new implementation is similar to augmented reality features present in other technology, like the smartphone-enabled Google Lens, which automatically brings up relevant information on any object, person, or place put in front of the camera lens.
The Snapchat app is required to run the feature.
