FIELDGATE, Doreen
(nee Caughlin)
1933 - 2022 "Liked and loved by so many"
It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of our beloved Mother, Grandmother, and Great-Grandmother. Doreen was born to Gladys (nee White) and Roy Caughlin in Rocanville, Saskatchewan August 19, 1933 and passed March 31, 2022. She was 88 years old. Doreen’s only sibling, older brother Keith Caughlin, passed away August 30, 2016. He is survived by his loving wife Dianne. The family moved from Saskatchewan to North Vancouver in 1941. Doreen attended Queen Mary Elementary School, then went on to North Vancouver High School for her teen years. Doreen was a natural athlete, and excelled in team sports. She played Field Hockey and Basketball.
Shortly after graduating from High School, she met the love of her life, Norm Fieldgate, (Dad predeceased mom on March 6, 2020) who had also moved from Saskatchewan to play for the B.C Lions football Club. They met through Mom’s High School friends, and didn’t take long for the two of them to marry. They Married on November 18, 1955. Doreen and Norm have three daughters - Carey (Dann Konkin), Lesley (Mark Wareham) and Janine. Four Granddaughters - Janey (Jeff Kaltenegger), Emma Watson (Charles Smith), Mackenzie Konkin, and Sydney Fieldgate-Feenie. Great-Granddaughter Harlowe Kaltenegger.
Mom loved to play bridge and started in her early 20’s with her High School girlfriends (The Bridge Club). They played for 60 plus years. Mom was also an avid golfer, and travelled to play with our father often. They were also dedicated supporters and fans of the B.C Lions, and held season tickets for over 50 years. They were famous for their yearly Super Bowl parties!! Friends can attest to a "Good time had by all". Alway the stylish woman! We certainly all got our ’PASSION for FASHION’ from her. Mom loved curling, she played at Capilano Winter Club back in the day. She loved watching curling on T.V., and got her various caregivers hooked on the game as well, She also loved her Toronto Blue Jays, another sport she got her caregivers involved in. We promise to continue to root for your beloved baseball team!!
Our mother passed in the family home in North Vancouver, that she loved and resided in for 52 years. She was surrounded with love, with all her girls by her side. A private celebration of her life, will take place at a later date, with her family and close friends.
We would like to thank the Doctors and nurses of Lionsgate Hospital, as well as The Kidney Clinic at St. Paul’s, for all their care and attention to our mother over the years. A big special thanks to Mom’s wonderful caregiver Jade.
... Love and Miss you ... Till we meet again ...
