MILLER, Philip Gordon
It is with great sadness that we announce the loss of our beloved Philip Gordon Miller. Philip was born in Vancouver, BC on February 5, 1931, and passed away on April 24, 2022, after 91 years of honourable living on this earth. He is survived by his son Gordon (Rebecca) and daughter Barbara (Mark), his cherished grandchildren, Brandon, Trevor, Duncan, and Chloe as well as many colleagues, friends, and neighbours. Philip was a gentleman and instant friend to everyone he met. He loved talking to people and was known for his vast knowledge of many subjects. Phil lived independently in his Cloverdale home right until his last days. He was life-long learner and spent his time navigating an iPhone, watching ted talks and youtubes on world news, history and science and sending informative emails to his friends. He never declined to help and was often seen accompanying people to the doctors, walking someone’s dog or driving his grandkids to their sports in his maroon1999 GMC pick-up truck, which he kept in mint condition. Philip grew up locally in South Burnaby and Cloverdale in the 1930s and 40s and told stories of hunting pheasants in fields where houses now stand, waiting for the horse & buggy milk wagon delivery and taking the Interurban Railcar into Vancouver. Out of high school Philip worked summers for the Canadian Pacific Telegraph and BC Packers in Ocean Falls. Philip’s main career started when he became a pilot for Canadian Pacific Airlines where he flew passenger aircraft and large jets all over the world for over 20 years. He ended his career at BC Hydro as a power engineer at the Burrard Thermal Plant. After retirement Philip maintained strong ties with his work colleagues including the Power Pioneers, BC Hydro Alumni, and his Langley Seniors group. He also established a much-loved presence in his neighbourhood. To know him was to love him and he will be sorely missed. A Celebration of Life Reception will be held on May 25, 2022 at Noon at the Semiahmoo Fish and Games Club (1284 184 Street Surrey, BC).
