While I agree in part with Mr. Wallace's letter that Quinn Hughes and Elias Pettersson's prolonged contract negotiations could have contributed to the Canucks slow start, I cannot blame the players for that. Was it their fault that management and ownership overpaid past free agents with long-term deals and left them with limited cap room? Was it their fault the NHL unfairly penalized the Canucks with a $3-million cap penalty for the Roberto Luongo contract when other teams like New Jersey and Detroit got away with similar contracts?
