Range of options should be available for seniors' housing

-

Re: We have to find ways of increasing community connections for seniors

In the Sunday opinion section on May 8, an enlightening item was featured by Simon Neill entitled “Bold, community-based care best path for seniors.”

I agree strongly that there needs to be better and more varied living opportunities for seniors.

Although most articles, commercials and webinars, etc. that I come across, propose that most seniors prefer to age at home, that is not and should not be the only option being addressed and worked toward, and it is not always the best solution for all involved.

With more availability, promotion and acceptance of the option of safe, well-run facilities (including integrated housing complexes) ranging from independent seniors' living through to residential care, I believe more individuals would choose those options for an array of reasons.

I hope more people like Mr. Neill will continue to promote this dialogue and the urgency for it.
