It is with sadness that we announce the death of Eunice Read at Marwood Centre Langley May 6, 2022 after a difficult 6 months. Eunice Violet Read was born in Moosejaw Saskatchew­an, but lived her whole adult life in Ladner, BC until retirement. She moved to Ladner as a teenager with her family and it wasnt long before she was raising a family of her own. She met and married local Standard Oil franchisee Geoffrey Grant and they started their family immediatel­y. Within 6 years they had 4 little girls, widely known in town as the Grant girls. Teresa, Kathy, Jean and Judy were active members of the community. A few years later, their younger brother David was born. Eunice didn’t work after marrying but was active with a local bowling league and her hobbies around ceramics and gardening. The family was primarily raised in their home on 47-A Avenue in Ladner. Eunice was a prolific preserver of produce and spent much of the summer months canning and preserving the goods available for her family’s consumptio­n in winter. She would buy fresh fish, fruit and vegetables to freeze, can and blanche to fill the pantry and freezer. After being widowed suddenly in 1968, Eunice remarried in 1970 to Clifford Read. He was her constant companion for 29 years before being taken by cancer in 1999. Eunice was predecease­d by her first husband, Geoffrey Grant, her second husband, Clifford Read, her siblings Owen, Robert, William, and Grant, her stepson Gary Read and her great-granddaugh­ter Brooklyn. She is survived by children Teresa (Dennis), Kathy (John), Jean (Dietmar), Judy (Mark), David (Janine) and Karen (Steve), 12 grandchild­ren and 17 great-grandchild­ren.
