FlixBus launches new cross-border service between Vancouver and Seattle
The bus company that purchased Greyhound is launching a new U.S.-Canada cross-border route between Vancouver and Seattle.
On Tuesday, FlixBus USA, whose parent company FlixMobility purchased Greyhound last year, announced a new coach connection between Vancouver and Seattle. The route, which launches May 26, will operate five days a week from Thursday to Monday, with one-way fares starting at $18. The service seeks to fill a void created by the cancellation of some cross-border connections during the COVID-19 pandemic, said the company in its news release.
“Let's not let high gas prices get in the way of the vacations we all deserve,” said FlixBus North America managing director Pierre Gourdain. “Never has it been so easy and affordable to bridge borders between the most beautiful cities in the Pacific Northwest.”
In 2021, Greyhound Canada shuttered operations across the country, citing a dramatic ridership decline exacerbated by the pandemic. The company shut down operations in Western Canada even earlier, in 2018, dealing a heavy blow to residents of rural and remote towns in B.C. who rely on the bus service as a primary mode of transportation.
Greyhound's U.S. arm continued to operate the cross-border service between Vancouver and Seattle, which resumed last November after a nearly two-year hiatus due to pandemic border restrictions. Quick Shuttle has also resumed its cross-border route.
