Armed Surrey woman shot, injured by police

A Surrey woman was seriously injured by police gunfire on Tuesday afternoon.

Surrey RCMP received calls about a woman with a weapon in the 10500-block of King George Boulevard just after noon. Officers found a woman who was “reportedly still in possession of the weapon,” a police statement said. “During an interactio­n between the woman and police, shots were fired by officers and the woman was injured,” according to the statement. The woman was taken to hospital.

B.C.'s Independen­t Investigat­ions Office has been tapped to look into the shooting. Surrey RCMP's general investigat­ion unit is also conducting a simultaneo­us but separate Criminal Code probe.

Bomb scare closes Victoria airport

Victoria Internatio­nal Airport was closed to all commercial flights on Wednesday afternoon after a suspicious package was found by staff.

According to North Saanich RCMP spokespers­on Cpl. Andy Sanchez, the suspicious package was found in the departures area and resembled an incendiary device.
