Gulls get gold

Ma­jor ban­tam cham­pi­onships held in Liverpool March 22-25

The Gulls are the 2017-2018 Nova Sco­tia Ma­jor Ban­tam Hockey League cham­pi­ons.

The All Credit Auto Rangers and The Gulls com­peted in the gold medal game, held at Queens Place Emera Cen­tre March 25. The Gulls won the game 4-2, gain­ing the lead in the third pe­riod.

The Gulls, with play­ers based out of the Sackville and East Hants area, got off to a strong start March 22 with a 3-0 win against Pro Hockey Life Harbour Storm, then de­feated Queens County’s Western Hur­ri­canes 5-0 the next day. They went on to tie the Bed­ford Sport Bridge Barons 2-2 March 23, then de­feated the Truro Bearcats 7-4 on March 24 af­ter a 6-5 loss to ACCEL Physio ear­lier in the day, good for sec­ond in the stand­ings af­ter roundrobin play.

The Auto Rangers had a clearer shot to the fi­nal, fin­ish­ing first in the stand­ings with five wins and one loss. The team had a 5-2 win against the Bed­ford Sport Bridge Barons March 22; a 6-3 win against ACCEL Physio March 23; a 6-1 win March 23 against the Pro Hockey Life Harbour Storm; a 3-2 win over Truro March 24; and a 3-1 win over the ACCEL Physio later in the day. The team’s only loss came in the fi­nal.

Accel Physio and the Truro Bearcats faced off in the bronze medal game at 10 a.m. March 25. The Bearcats won the game 6-5, scor­ing four points in the first pe­riod and two in the third. Strong show­ing for Hur­ri­canes The O’re­gan’s Subaru Western Hur­ri­canes hosted the March 22 to 25 event, fin­ish­ing fourth in the stand­ings.

Over three days, the Hur­ri­canes played four games, win­ning two and los­ing two. The Hur­ri­canes came away from the tour­na­ment with a win March 24, when the Liverpool-based team beat the Bed­ford Sports Bridge Barons 8-2. Luke Wood­worth scored two goals in the game, and Kon­nor Ben­jamin, Law­son Cook, Ma­son Ma­clean, Nolan O’brien, Ryan Hop­kins and Nolan At­wood each had one goal.

Ben­jamin and Will Chisholm each made two as­sists, while Cook, Ma­clean, O’brien, Hop­kins, and Aaron Lane made one as­sist re­spec­tively.


The O’re­gan’s Subaru Western Hur­ri­canes played their fi­nal game in the 2018 Nova Sco­tia Ma­jor Ban­tam Hockey League Provin­cials March 24. The Hur­ri­canes won 8-2 against the Bed­ford Sports Bridge Barons.
