Liverpool Adventure Outfitters cannot think of a better way to spend an afternoon than a canoe and brew session along the Mersey River.

During Father’s Day weekend, on June 16, participants will board either a canoe or a single or double kayak and take a guided paddle up the river. The tour will start from the boat launch beside Lane’s Privateer Inn and will last about 1.5 hours before heading to Hell Bay for a beer tasting, says Caitlin Nickerson, manager at Liverpool Adventure Outfitters.

Nickerson says the business is trying to add some new, local events this year, partnering with other local businesses to add something new and exciting to the area. Last summer, the group offered a full moon paddle which was very well received, says Nickerson, so a few more were added throughout the summer. The sessions sold out every time.

She is hoping the Canoe and Brew event will provide the opportunity for both area residents and people from outside of Queens County to patronize more businesses in the area, experience Liverpool’s beautiful waterfront and visit a local craft brewery.

For safety reasons, the beer tasting event takes place after the paddle.

“Once the drinking starts, the paddling stops,” says Nickerson.

Hell Bay will be open after the beer tasting, says Nickerson, so if people would like to, they can stay and enjoy their evening at the brewery.

Canoe and Brew is $40 plus tax per person and includes the canoe or kayak rental and personal flotation device, all required safety gear, the beer tasting event, and the guided tour. No paddling experience is needed, as participants will receive basic instruction and will be with the group at all times. Preregistration is required.

Liverpool Adventure Outfitters, celebrating its 15th year in operation, provides canoe, kayak, and stand-up paddle boarding clinics; paddling, cycling, and multisport tours, both in Atlantic Canada and now to destinations such as Belize, Mexico, and Costa Rica, and paddling events. The business also has a retail shop selling canoes, kayaks, stand-up paddle boards and bikes, paddling accessories, camping accessories, cycling accessories, skates and skating accessories, along with a full-service bicycle repair shop, and skate sharpening services.
