Officer injured in arrest
A Leeds County Ontario Provincial Police officer was injured trying to arrest a driver who had fled on foot on Highway 401 late Tuesday. With the assistance of bystanders, the suspect was restrained. Leeds detachment officers had received information about a vehicle driving erratically before colliding into the median on the eastbound 401 in Front of Yonge Township just after 8:30 p.m., said police. The driver reportedly got out of his car and began accosting assisting bystanders. Police said it is indicated he tried to enter their vehicles before he began running down the highway. The suspect was taken to Brockville General Hospital for assessment. Police were not releasing further information as of Wednesday afternoon and the investigation was continuing.
