Ford should step in
The trade dispute between Canada and U.S. President Donald Trump is underway. On one hand, Trump is trying to make effective his unlawful trade constraints on Canada’s exports to the U.S. by attempting to bully and intimidate our federal government. There is a danger that he will use the argument of national security to ignore the anticipated opposition by Congress in this matter. On the other hand, the Canadian government is using diplomatic tactics to not give in and to defend Canada’s national interests.
As an Ontario resident, I wonder what Premier Doug Ford’s stance is on this issue? Why doesn’t he travel to the U.S. as the Ontario premier to lobby his Conservative friends among the U.S. governors and Congress representatives to support the Canadian position in NAFTA negotiations? It is time to put Ontarians’ real interests first and to get actively involved in this dispute before Trump puts tariffs on Ontario’s vehicle exports to the States, jeopardizing thousands of jobs in Ontario.
