Expect turbulence

The Recorder & Times (Brockville) - - OPINION -

Welcome to the Ford Follies. The newly elected Progressive (?) Conservatives have hit the deck running.

To help students in the 21st century, they’ve dialled back curriculums to a time that ignores the Internet.

To show Ontario is “open for business” they cancel government contracts and play loose with government rebates (landing and losing in court).

They plan to waste $30 million on a constitutional case most acknowledge is not winnable. They’ve squandered money losing to the City of Toronto and Tesla. They’re fighting dubious battles with OPSEU, ETFO, basic income recipients, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association, and the LGBTQ community.

And this just borders on lunacy: Ford has decided to suspend the Charter of Rights and Freedoms here in Ontario by using the Notwithstanding Clause after the Ontario Superior Court ruled his council-slashing was unconstitutional.

Buckle up. The next four years could be a bumpy ride.
