Drunk driv­ing charges

An El­iz­a­beth­town-Kit­ley man faces drunk driv­ing charges af­ter be­ing stopped at a RIDE check in the town­ship Fri­day night. At about 11:30 p.m., On­tario Provin­cial Po­lice of­fi­cers were con­duct­ing a RIDE (Re­duce Im­paired Driv­ing Ev­ery­where) check at the in­ter­sec­tion of County Road 2 and Sharpe’s Lane. Of­fi­cers ar­rested a male driver and charged him with im­paired driv­ing af­ter an in­ves­ti­ga­tion. Matthew Healey, 28, is sched­uled to ap­pear in court in Brockville on Dec. 21 to an­swer to his charges. Healey fur­ther faces charges un­der the Cannabis Act for hav­ing cannabis read­ily avail­able and the Liquor Li­cence Act for hav­ing open al­co­hol, po­lice added. While Leeds OPP of­fi­cers do in­crease their num­ber of RIDE stops over the hol­i­days, they are re­mind­ing driv­ers that RIDE stops are car­ried out through­out the year, through­out the prov­ince as part of the OPP’s Provin­cial Traf­fic Safety Pro­gram (PTSP).
