Drunk driving charges
An Elizabethtown-Kitley man faces drunk driving charges after being stopped at a RIDE check in the township Friday night. At about 11:30 p.m., Ontario Provincial Police officers were conducting a RIDE (Reduce Impaired Driving Everywhere) check at the intersection of County Road 2 and Sharpe’s Lane. Officers arrested a male driver and charged him with impaired driving after an investigation. Matthew Healey, 28, is scheduled to appear in court in Brockville on Dec. 21 to answer to his charges. Healey further faces charges under the Cannabis Act for having cannabis readily available and the Liquor Licence Act for having open alcohol, police added. While Leeds OPP officers do increase their number of RIDE stops over the holidays, they are reminding drivers that RIDE stops are carried out throughout the year, throughout the province as part of the OPP’s Provincial Traffic Safety Program (PTSP).
