Odd man out: Leafs trade Leivo to Canucks

The Sault Star - - SPORTS - TERRY KOSHAN

The return of William Nylander has resulted in a new employer for Josh Leivo.

With Nylander signed and back in the Maple Leafs lineup at some point later in the week, the Leafs on Monday traded Leivo to the Vancouver Canucks for minorleague forward Michael Carcone.

The Leafs had temporarily sent defenceman Travis Dermott to the Toronto Marlies, as they were one player over the roster limit when Nylander signed on Saturday. It was a paper transaction only, as Dermott has been recalled and will be in the lineup on Tuesday night when the Leafs visit the Buffalo Sabres.

Carcone, a 22-year-old native of Ajax, Ont., has 17 points in 20 games this season for the Utica Comets of the American Hockey League. Carcone played for two seasons with Drummondville of the Quebec Major Junior Hockey League before signing as a free agent with Vancouver in July 2016.
